Kids Love Zoo Shows
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has just announced they will sponsor “Jack Hanna’s Into the Wild” as one of their shows at the zoo. This celebrity zoo keeper will feature its animals, staff members and programs during a portion of each Emmy-Award-winning TV episode. In the past, he has featured Busch Gardens parks in Florida and Virginia. While he charges $1 million for the national endorsement, zoo officials say this boost in publicity will call attention to some of their endangered species programs. Of course, visitors don’t just have to sit at home to catch zoo shows, as they can come to the facilities for many great opportunities as well!
The Cincinnati Zoo has a few unique attractions and shows at the zoo that visitors love. For instance, how many zoos have an all-day-ride-pass that provides unlimited rides on a train, shuttle bus and carousel? Guests also flock to the state-of-the-art 4-D Special FX Theater, since Cincinnati is the first zoo to offer such an experience. According to the description, “You’ll see it. You’ll move with it. You’ll taste it and you’ll even smell it. Believe it or not, it will even touch you.” Currently, they have “Wild Earth Africa” playing, which includes footage of elephants, rhinos, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, cheetah and lions, combined with amazing special effects. Visitors can also watch “Planet Earth – From Pole to Pole” which watches great white sharks, seals, polar bears and penguins or “Extreme Log Ride 4-D,” which takes us to a dystopia in 2020 where humankind if on the brink of environmental disaster from Amazon habitat destruction. A 30 minute program by “The Backyardigans” and the “Wonderpets” during a special 4-D presentation of “Nick Jr at the Movies” is fun for both mom and dad.
At the Asheboro Zoo, the shows at the zoo vary by the time of the year but there is always something to see or do! You can take a 4-D safari to Mount Kenya or ride a carousel of endangered species animals from April through November. All year round, you can enjoy special animal presentations at 1:30 pm and watch a number of animal feedings (including giraffes), which will be listed in your updated schedule at the front gates. Saturdays in April present “ZooFLING,” a show about “animal appetites, creature comforts and wild lifestyles.” In May, “Birds & Blooms” will help you gain a new appreciation for the flowers and feathered friends of the zoo’s collection. May also lets you learn about snakes and their role in nature. June covers bees and bears and August shows you how animals stay cool at the zoo during the hot summer months. “ZooFEST” is this NC zoo’s most popular attraction, presenting face painting, costume contests, trick-or-treating, games and music on October weekends. If you attend on October 31st or November 1st, you can also learn about the bats of the Sonora Desert.
